Preparing Your Pet for a Successful Veterinary Visit
A little preparation before your pet's appointment can make the visit smoother for everyone, including your pet, you, and the veterinary team.
Before You Leave Home
Bring a list of current medications, supplements, and any questions or concerns you want to discuss. If your pet has had recent changes in appetite, energy, bathroom habits, or behavior, jot those down too, it's easy to forget details once you're in the exam room.
Getting Your Pet Comfortable with Travel
For dogs, a short pre-visit walk can help burn off nervous energy. For cats and small pets, a familiar-smelling blanket in the carrier can offer comfort during the car ride.
What to Bring
If possible, bring a fresh stool or urine sample if your veterinarian has requested one, along with any paperwork from previous vets or specialists if this is a new patient visit.
During the Appointment
Try to stay calm and relaxed, pets often pick up on their owner's stress. Let the veterinary team know about any handling preferences or past experiences that might help make the visit go smoothly.
