CANINE AGING GROUPS


General preventative medicine recommendations and screening diagnostics.

Age groups identify patients at risk. This allows for identification and prevention of clinical problems. Some pets should have Pre-Op Screen/CBC prior to anesthesia. These recommendations for preventative care are in addition to annual vaccines and preventative health care activities listed on your home care instructions.

Group I - 0 to 7 years (Human years 0-35)
- Physical
- Heartworm test and preventative medication
- Stool check for internal parasites
- Electrocardiogram (Lead II)
- Pre-op screen (SA 050) or Heska CBC/Chem6

Group II - 8 to 12 years (Human years 35-60)
- Physical
- Heartworm
- Stool
- Blood panel (complete blood count, chemistry panel, ESR) and urinalysis
- Electrocardiogram (Lead II)
- Thyroid Screen, Total T4
- Blood Pressure

Group III - 13 to 23 years (Human years 65-105)
- Physical
- Heartworm
- Stool...floatation & Hemoccult
- Blood panel and urinalysis
- Chest, Abdominal, or spine & pelvis radiographs may be indicated
- Electrocardiogram ( Lead II)
- Thyroid Screen Total T4
- Blood Pressure
